Summary

__________________

The movie seven is about two men, David Mills and William Somerset, who are detectives hunting for a man who is creating numerous and violent crimes. One man has been in the detective industry for a while, while the other is brand new, and his first case is to stop the newest criminal who has been creating these crimes.

Narrative Structure

________________________________

The first act happened right a Mills and Somerset had found out about a resent murder that consisted of an obese guy. The second act, and or the rising action or conflict happened a little later in the movie when they had finally caught this mystery killer (John Doe) at the police station. The third act is where the final conflict happened. This conflict was when Mills made the decision to finally shoot John Doe, and the resolution was when he was arrested, and Somerset decided that he would "be around."

Character Conflicts

________________________________

The central conflict of the film is about Mills and Somersets distinctive personalities. They butt heads all the time, and Somerset just goes without thinking while Mills is more constructive and thought out. And on top of that, they are both on a mission to find out who this murderer is. The characters change, but it feels subtle. It seems like Mills gets more aggressive and starts losing more of his senses as the killer goes on killing more people, but Somerset becomes tamer, desensitized, but also builds up a love hate relationship with the place he lives in, cueing him to stick around for longer. The main obstacles that shape their journey would be Mills' attitude, whether he is being aggressive, too naive, or just not thinking before doing. But the other obstacle is the killer, and how the two detectives were unable to find him for most of the movie.

My Experience

__________________________

I honestly was not sure what to expect. All I knew was that there would be murderers and that was about it. But after watching the movie, it gave me more than I bargained for and I loved it. The main part that surprised me was when Somerset was not the other "sin". I really thought he had some type of envy against Mills, and I thought they were hinting at that with the whole wife situation and baby situation, and the marriage. The emotional impact of the conflict and resolution was when Mills was fighting himself on whether he wanted to shoot John Doe or not. You can see in the moment he is not sure if he just wants to get it over with, end his career forever, let this thing go. But what pushed him over the edge more was the baby situation, and how he had no idea his wife was pregnant. Then when he finally shot John Doe, it all cleared up and the resolution showed how distinct and just soulless Mills was while Somerset was just... disappointed, but Mills' actions were to be expected.
